Nature

The Mydlovarský luh Nature Reserve is partly located in the cadastral area of Ostrá. It is one of the last remaining complexes of floodplain forests in the Elbe region. Mydlovarský luh protects floodplain forests, former branches of the Elbe, wetlands, mown meadows, and the naturally meandering Farský potok stream.

The Semická hůra hill (Semice nad Labem) is located in the vicinity of Ostrá. The Kateřina hill (Milovice nad Labem), Holý hill (Chrást u Poříčan), and Na Čilečku hill (Straky) are also located in the vicinity of Ostrá.

Culture and history

The Libuše Tržická Stone Museum in Ostrá presents several dozen stones from the 19th and 20th centuries. The Mydlovar castle ruins in Ostrá are a rare castle built entirely of bricks, with a curtain wall. What remains of Mydlovar Castle is an oval fortified area with several systems of water fortifications, as well as remnants of masonry.

Mydlovar Castle was founded around the second half of the 13th century and was already recorded as abandoned before 1561. The Church of U Svatého Vojtěcha is located in the wider regional surroundings of Ostrá.

Trails

The blue-marked hiking trail runs through the southern part of Ostrá, follows the eastern shore around the bathing lake, and continues via the Buda holiday settlement on the right bank of the Elbe through Mydlovarský luh. The yellow-marked hiking trail runs along the right bank of the Elbe from the Buda holiday settlement to the bridge over the river in Lysá nad Labem.

Surroundings

Ostrá railway stop is located on the Prague–Lysá nad Labem–Kolín line and provides access to Botanicus.
