The Kuchyňka hill is located in the cadastral area of Brázdim in the Praha-východ District.

Nature and Landscape

Kuchyňka is an important geological, paleontological, and archaeological site with fossils from the Mesozoic sea and a settlement site of Aurignacian humans. The designation of Kuchyňka as a natural monument came into effect on June 1, 1997.

Archaeology

Zlatý kopec lies between the municipalities of Brázdim, Přezletice, and Veleň. The discovery at Zlatý kopec is considered the oldest evidence of settlement in Europe. The excavation at Zlatý kopec uncovered the remains of large huts, hearths, bone waste, and discarded tools.

Culture and History

The “Old Czech May Celebrations” in Brázdim also include birch maypoles. The tradition involves a musical procession that visits houses in front of which maypoles have been erected, and ends with a dance festival and a raffle for the large maypole.

A park was created around the monument and bell tower in Starý Brázdim. Every year on October 28, commemorative celebrations marking the founding of the Czechoslovak Republic were held in the park around the monument and bell tower in Starý Brázdim. The bell tower in Starý Brázdim is a small brick structure that was built after the former wooden bell tower collapsed in 1834.
