Culture and History

Malkov Castle stands on a prominent spur of land above the Strenický stream. A neck ditch forms the boundary of the site. Remains of a castle have survived at Malkov.

The history of the village of Malé Horky is closely connected with the history of Malkov Castle. In 1548, Malkov and the Malé Horky estate passed to Jan after the division of the property. The owners of Malkov, who referred to themselves as the Lords of Malé Horky, changed frequently thereafter. In 1574, Malkov Castle was described as abandoned.

Historic Routes

A former country road led from Nymburk through the Strenické Valley, via Malé Horky, Pětikozly and Katusice to Bezděz, and onward across the border to Žitava. A former coaching inn still stands in Malé Horky and is now used as a house. The former coaching inn is now House No. 1, owned by Mr Čamler.

Landscape

The surrounding area of Malé Horky includes Niměřický vrch Hill [Sovínky], Popluží Hill [Jizerní Vtelno] and Sládkovský Hill [Strašnov]. The wider region includes Lysá Mountain, the ruins of Starý Berštejn and the Church of U Svatého Vojtěcha.
