Skorkov: Hotels and accommodations

Skorkov combines the scenic attractions of the Jizera with a historically distinctive church complex. The area's scenic attractions include the Jizera and its accompanying vegetation, a wooded and prominent hillside, which is also partly protected as VKP Lipka, as well as the extensive forested areas: three quarters of Skorkov's cadastral area is covered by forest.

Culture and history

The Church of St. John the Baptist in Skorkov was first mentioned in 1359 and was severely damaged during the Thirty Years' War. A bell tower was added to the church in 1698; the tower acquired its present appearance during a renovation in 1873. The Church of St. John the Baptist complex is surrounded by a stone perimeter wall. Outside the church cemetery, a stone cross stands south of the bell tower.

Next to the church, an ossuary from the former cemetery has been preserved. It contains an altar of the Virgin Mary carved in the Renaissance style; the legible inscription “1666 Susanna Maria Countess von Luestein” has also been preserved there. The bell tower offers a view of the wooded Jizera Valley.

Cycling routes and water

Cycling Route No. 17 connects Skorkov with the neighboring municipalities. The forests along the Jizera and other forests in the surrounding area are used seasonally for mushroom picking.

Near Skorkov, the Jizera offers opportunities for swimming in summer. Facilities for water tourism are planned on the Jizera in Skorkov, particularly to allow the Jizera water route to be navigated safely by canoe, kayak, and similar watercraft.
