Smečno: Hotels and Accommodation

Smečno Castle dates back to a 15th-century fortress. Its interior is not open to visitors; the Smečno castle park is open to the public. The Sala terrena pavilion in Smečno castle park was built in 1730 by K. I. Dientzenhofer.

Culture and History

The Church of the Most Holy Trinity in Smečno preserves the presbytery of an originally Gothic building dating from the 14th century. The rest of the church was created through a Renaissance reconstruction in 1587. The Smečno organ also dates from 1587 and is considered the oldest organ in Central Europe. In addition to religious services, it is also used for individual organ concerts.

The Smečno Urban Heritage Conservation Zone has been protected since 10 September 1992. It includes the historic town centre as well as Smečno Castle and its adjacent park.

The Clam-Martinic family tomb is an Empire-style funerary chapel built in 1832 in the eastern part of the cemetery in Smečno, in Kladno District. It served as the burial place of the noble Clam-Martinic family, which owned Smečno Castle.

Museums and Events

The Sýpka granary in the west of Smečno, dating from 1700, houses the Artillery Museum, which is accessible by arrangement with the town office.

The Vojenský skanzen Smečno includes a bunker built into the wall of the castle park, which has been restored to its mobilisation condition of September 1938. Every September, the Vojenský skanzen Smečno holds the Zdeněk Stárek Memorial with full-day dynamic demonstrations of light and heavy military equipment.

The 20th Smečno Organ Festival has been announced for 2026 at the Church of the Most Holy Trinity in Smečno.

Nature

The Smečenská rokle nature monument, located in the vicinity of Smečno, is a sharply incised marl canyon 2 km southwest of the town. In the vicinity of Smečno, the Smečenská rokle nature monument also protects a geological profile of the Džbán Cretaceous Plateau as well as calcicole plant species.
