Jewish Heritage

Jewish residents lived in Spomyšl for several centuries. The humanitarian association Humanitäts Verein Bikur-Cholin Gomel Chamdin Spomyschl was founded in Spomyšl in 1877.

The Jewish cemetery in Spomyšl is believed to have been established in the 17th century. It is located 1.5 km northwest of Spomyšl on a hill at the transition between forest and field. Approximately 300 gravestones dating from 1726 to the 1930s have been preserved in the cemetery, which covers 1,845 square meters.

Cultural Life

Historically, Spomyšl had three libraries; associations also organized music and theater performances. Pálení čarodějnic is a traditional event in Spomyšl.
