Hostín u Vojkovic is home to the parish church “Kostel Nanebevzetí Panny Marie”, a religious building whose architectural history combines Romanesque and Early Gothic beginnings with later alterations.
Culture and History
The parish church “Kostel Nanebevzetí Panny Marie” is a Romanesque and Early Gothic religious building that was partially redesigned in the Renaissance style after 1615 and remodelled in the Baroque style in the 18th century. A Gothic south portal and an Early Gothic presbytery have been preserved. The church is already mentioned as a parish church in 1290; its first recorded mention dates from 1320.
The local architectural history also includes the cemetery chapel “Kaple Božího těla”. It was built between 1735 and 1736 in the Baroque style under the direction of the Italian Jeroným Costa. Its distinctive floor plan is an original circular shape with an inner diameter of 12 m and an outer diameter of 17 m.
Nature and Landscape
Hostín u Vojkovic lies in a wide, flat, open area along the Elbe and Vltava rivers. On the northern edge of the village is Selská tůň, a semi-natural body of water with riparian communities and floodplain woodland. The pool is a remnant of a naturally deepened section of a meander of the Vltava; its area is a biotope for specially protected species of amphibians, reptiles and birds.
Village Life and Transport
Hostín u Vojkovic has a football pitch as well as a tennis and volleyball court with artificial lighting and the necessary equipment.
The village can only be reached by road II/101 from Neratovice to Kralupy nad Vltavou and has neither a railway connection nor any other transport connection. In the Hostín u Vojkovic region, the cultivation of fruit and vegetables as well as sugar beet has a long-standing tradition due to the soil and climatic conditions.
