History and Culture

Late La Tène and early Roman-period settlements, as well as remains of the Únětice and Knovíz cultures, have been documented in the area of Starý Vestec. Starý Vestec was first mentioned in written records in 1320; at that time, the village belonged to Břevnov Monastery. From 1437, Starý Vestec belonged to neighbouring Přerov nad Labem.

The Chapel of Saint Wenceslas in Starý Vestec is considered the village’s most important cultural monument. It was built in 1861 in honour of the patron saint of the Czech lands. The heavily deteriorated chapel was restored at the municipality’s expense in 1993 to its present form, without the original bell tower, and was reconsecrated. The memorial to those who fell in the First World War of 1914–1918 in Starý Vestec was completely renovated in 1990.
