Vraný: Hotels and Accommodation

Vraný lies in a valley through which two branches of the Vranský potok stream flow. In the town and its surroundings, evidence of local history combines with religious buildings, a preserved town gate, and a museum.

Culture and Local History

The Vraný Township Memorial includes one room dedicated to the life and work of Svatopluk Čech and another dedicated to the life and work of Jaroslav Věšín. The Memorial also houses a museum with documents and archival materials relating to Vraný. It opens as needed and when there is sufficient interest from visitors, tourists, and schools and kindergartens in the surrounding area.

The school is also part of the local history: it has an uninterrupted school tradition spanning 350 years and is one of Vraný’s important sights. A monument to Svatopluk Čech stands in front of the chateau. Vraný’s square is home to a statue of Saint John of Nepomuk, which was mentioned as early as 1727. In front of the rectory stands a statue of the Virgin Mary, considered a Baroque sculptural work; a statue of Saint Wenceslas also stands near the town hall.

Chateau, Churches, and Chapels

Vraný Chateau was built in 1785–1794 by the Metropolitan Chapter of St. Vitus in Prague as a three-winged Rococo residence with a mansard roof. It currently houses a social care facility; access is restricted. On elevated ground at the western edge of Vraný stands the Baroque Church of the Nativity of Saint John the Baptist, dating from the 18th century. The present Church of Saint John the Baptist dates from 1751–1761, while a church at this site had already been mentioned in 1352.

The Chapel of Saint Rosalia was built in 1812 on the site of an older cross. The Chapel of the Most Holy Trinity is a late Baroque niche chapel and was probably built in 1813.

Town Gate and Monument

The Slánská Gate is one of the few surviving examples of a screen-like town gate with a side passage for pedestrians. It is the surviving eastern gate of the former Vraný gate system; its Renaissance form was remodelled in the Baroque style and reconstructed in 2004. The Slánská Gate is freely accessible to visitors.

A military monument stands in the area around Vraný, between Vraný and Peruc, approximately at the site of an Allied troop review held on 19 August 1813.

Landscape and Nature

The Obora mixed forest in the area around Vraný is frequently visited by mushroom pickers.

Geographical Location

Road II/239 crosses Vraný from east to west; a third-class road runs through the town from north to south. Vrbičany railway station is 2.5 km southwest of Vraný on Line 110 between Kralupy nad Vltavou and Louny. Vraný lies outside the network of marked hiking trails.
