Dohalice: Hotels and Accommodation
Dohalice reveals itself through tangible evidence from architectural history, commemorative culture, the river landscape and local events.
Culture and History
The imposing Baroque granary in Dohalice is a remnant of the former Gothic fortress and presumably stands on its former site. Traces of Renaissance and Baroque alterations have been preserved in its masonry. Dohalice also lies in the area where a decisive phase of the Prussian-Austrian War of 1866 took place.
The present-day Church of Saint John the Baptist was built in 1894–1896 on the site of a rotunda that collapsed in 1888. The hall-like, three-nave building has a polygonally closed presbytery, a rectangular sacristy on the south side and a prismatic tower in front of the west façade.
Memorial Sites
There are four war graves by the church wall in Dohaličky. They are marked with sandstone pedestals and cast-iron crosses; each cross bears a different inscription. The statue of Saint John of Nepomuk from 1832 also stands in the village square of Dohalice. The “BRIGÁDA KNEBEL” monument depicts a standing lion trampling on a snake.
Nature
The Bystřice flows through Dohalice. On its banks, in the meadows between Dohalice and Sadová, stands the statue of Perseus. It is a remnant of the former park at Sadová Castle, which burned down and was abandoned in 1744. The statue was created in 1844 from coarse-grained sandstone.
Events
The second edition of “Slavnosti chleba” in Horní Dohalice took place on Saturday, 8 August, as a neighbourhood festival. Local bakers organised the event, which focused entirely on different types of bread.
At the “Pěšky i na kole kolem Dohalic” event, the route began at the school in Dohaličky between 14:00 and 15:00 and ended at the Sokolovna in Dohalice. A blue 40-kilometre route, a green 18-kilometre route and a red 6.6-kilometre route were available.
