Střezetice: Hotels and accommodations

In Střezetice, monuments commemorating the Battle of Hradec Králové meet signposted paths through the historic surroundings. The town and nearby sites combine tangible places of remembrance with cycling and hiking routes.

Places of remembrance

Near Střezetice, the historic battlefield of Hradec Králové is home to the “Pomník jezdecké srážky u Střezetic”. It commemorates soldiers and horses who fell on July 3, 1866, in a clash fought as part of the Battle of Hradec Králové. The monument was unveiled on July 2, 2016, on the occasion of the 150th anniversary of the Battle of Hradec Králové.

The monument to Alexandr Baron von Bethmann stands about 300 meters east of Střezetice, in a group of four monuments in an open field. The sandstone pyramid bears an inscribed plaque in Czech and German. In 1894, the monument was moved from a field to its present location.

Southeast of Dlouhé Dvory is “Hroby Obětí války 1866”, a sandstone pyramid marking the grave of 30 Austrian and Prussian soldiers who fell on July 3, 1866. The tomb of Edmund von Salemfels commemorates the Austrian First Lieutenant Edmund von Salemfels of the 9th Uhlan Regiment. It consists of a polished granite pillar with a bronze coat of arms and stands in front of a matching gravestone.

The monument to Romuald von Dobrucki was moved from a field between Horní Dohalice and Dlouhé Dvory, beside the railway line, to its present location.

Cycling and hiking trails

Cycle route 4286 runs through Střezetice in the direction of Všestary; along the way, there is a stop at the “Pomník padlých koní” monument. From Dlouhé Dvory railway station, hikers can follow a yellow-marked trail to Rozběřice and on to Chlum, the center of the 1866 battlefield.

Střezetice and Dlouhé Dvory are part of an educational trail. Dlouhé Dvory railway station serves Střezetice as its rail connection; Dlouhé Dvory are administered by the same municipal office.
