Culture and history

In the municipality of Všestary, the battlefield complex on Chlum includes the Muzeum války 1866. It presents the conflict through the personal stories of soldiers and civilians. A mobile augmented reality experience makes artillery positions, trenches and troop movements visible in the battlefield landscape. The Chlum battlefield is home to almost 500 monuments, forming the largest collection of funerary architecture in the Czech Republic. Guided tours of the Muzeum války 1866 exhibition and the battlefield can be booked.

The Church of the Holy Trinity is a protected cultural monument. The present church was built in 1842–1843 after the earlier church, with the exception of its tower, had been demolished. It is a Neoclassical church with a Gothic-Renaissance tower and a landmark of Všestary and its surroundings.

Všestary was founded by the Melounka stream and along an old trade route connecting Hradec Králové with Hořice and Jičín. In the municipality of Všestary, the Lesní divadlo Chlum offers both theatre and music programmes. According to local tradition, it was founded in the early 1920s as a venue for amateur theatre performances.

Archaeology

There is evidence of prehistoric settlement in Všestary. The Archeopark pravěku Všestary includes a main exhibition on prehistory, an outdoor exhibition and examples of prehistoric buildings, including a Neolithic house and an Eneolithic house, as well as an exhibition on domestic animals. The three-storey exhibition features a large model of prehistoric landscapes and human settlements. The Archeopark regularly organises programmes on various themes that introduce visitors vividly to life in prehistoric times.

The Archeopark pravěku Všestary can be reached on foot from Všestary railway station in 15 minutes. The swimming pool in Všestary offers swimming lessons for children from six months of age through to competitive swimmers.

Cycle routes

The 20 km cycle route “Chlum přes Hoříněves” starts at Všestary railway station and returns to Všestary via Rozběřice. The 26 km “Dlouhý okruh bitvou r. 1866” starts in Všestary, leads to Chlum and returns to Všestary via Rozběřice. An educational cycle route leads from Hradec Králové to the Archeopark pravěku Všestary and stops at archaeological sites.
