Culture and History

The Church of St. Matthew in Žeretice is originally Gothic and dates from 1384. It was rebuilt in the Baroque style between 1674 and 1677. The village's sacred furnishings also include a statue of Saint John of Nepomuk, which faces southeast toward the road. At an intersection stands a sandstone monument depicting the Crucifixion; an iron bell tower is located on the road to Vrbice in Žeretice.

The Hradišťko archaeological site is classified as UAN I and designated as an important archaeological locality. The multi-period fortified settlement of Hradišťko lies on a gentle southern slope above the left bank of the Cidlina. In Hradíšťko, which belongs to the municipality of Žeretice, stands a Church of St. Matthew, which is a branch church and formerly served as a parish church.

Landscape and Bodies of Water

West of the built-up area of Žeretice lies the Rybník pond, which is fed by the Žeretický stream. A stone footbridge is located in the cadastral area of the municipality of Žeretice, between Vlhošť and Dolní Hradišťko.

The mountains of Maxinec (MLázovický chlum) and Přivýšina are located in the surroundings of Žeretice. The wider regional area also includes Kamenec mountain, U Borku mountain [Záhornice u Městce Králové], and Valdštejn Church.
