Lukavec U Hořic: Hotels and Accommodation

Lukavec u Hořic lies in a meadow-filled valley at the northern foot of the wooded Chlum Hills and is surrounded by forests on three sides. The cadastral area of Lukavec u Hořic is part of the Byšičky Natural Monument.

Most of the Byšičky Natural Monument consists of woodland of varying, partly natural composition. Several ponds with unique peat meadows in the floodplain zone adjoin the woodland. The entire Byšičky complex is an important biocentre in a predominantly agricultural landscape.

The Lukavecký Stream, also known as the Lukava, Lukavec and Lukavý, flows through Lukavec u Hořic and rises at Osmik Pond near the Byšičky forester's lodge.

Culture and History

Lukavec was founded in the first half of the 13th century and originally had a manor farm, three to five farmsteads and a fortress. The former Lukavec fortress was demolished in the 18th century. It probably stood near today's house No. 44; changes in the terrain from former fortification ditches and ramparts remain from its original layout.

Some log houses in Lukavec u Hořic date from the late 18th or early 19th century. The Lukavecký Cross opposite the municipal office was erected in 1844 and restored in 1880 and 1896.

The stone memorial bearing the names of the fallen was erected in 1922 on a hill in the centre of Lukavec. On 28 October, commemorative events celebrating the foundation of the state were held at the war memorial; during the reunion of former residents, a procession also made its way to the memorial.

Local Life and Activities

Lukavec has a swimming area in a fire reservoir. Entry and swimming are at your own risk. Cycle Route No. 4135 passes through Lukavec u Hořic.

The second edition of a competition for the best homemade sauerkraut took place at the Lukavecké zelobraní on 6 March 2026 at the Lucerna restaurant.
