Near the center of Milovice u Hořic lies the Church Complex of St. Peter and Paul. The ensemble includes a cemetery and an octagonal mortuary chapel built into the surrounding wall.

Culture and History

The Church of St. Peter and Paul was listed as a cultural monument by 1972 at the latest. It was originally a Gothic building; Gothic elements from the second half of the 14th century have been preserved. In the Middle Ages, the Church of St. Peter and the vicarage in Milovice formed an administrative center of significance for the surrounding parish villages.

The medieval church, vicarage, and school developed along an important country road that connected the southwestern lands with Poland via Prague and Hradec. From 1754 to 1788, the Panská hospoda building served as a post station on the Saxon-Moravian postal route and was associated with an inn and a butcher's shop; today it is privately owned.

In front of the cemetery stands a statue of Saint John of Nepomuk. Its pedestal bears an inscription from 1812; the statue was restored in 2009. In the park in front of the local cemetery stands an Immaculata statue made of Hořice sandstone; according to the inscription, it is dated 1899.

On the side of the path next to the cemetery, lined with a linden avenue, stands a statue of Saint Francis of Paola. It includes a relief of Saint Wenceslas and Saint Ludmila; its inscription dates it to 1799. The Cyril and Methodius Cross stands at a crossroads near the cemetery, dates from 1854, and was restored in 1888, 2001, and 2009.
