Liberk: Hotels and accommodations

The church ensemble includes a tiered wooden bell tower and a log-built rectory. The church has a Baroque interior with coffered ceilings; the interior contains paintings on wood. It also houses wooden statues of Saint Wenceslas and Saint John of Nepomuk, created by the local sculptor Filip Jakub Prokop. Prokop was born in Liberk in 1740. A memorial plaque affixed to the local kindergarten commemorates him.

Guided tours of the Church of St. Peter and Paul, accompanied by commentary, are available by prior arrangement. The church has no regular opening hours; tours must therefore be arranged in advance. Public events are regularly held inside the church. The entire church ensemble has been a national cultural monument since 2014.

Further examples of local ecclesiastical art include the small rural Church of St. John of Nepomuk, with its wooden bell tower, built between 1734 and 1736, and a column with a statue of the Immaculate Virgin Mary erected at the community’s expense in 1751. The Ecce Homo statue in Liberk was probably created in Vienna in 1777 and is an early regional example of Neoclassical art of Viennese provenance. Also dating from 1777 is the statue of Our Lady of Wambierzyce, which reflects devotion to the Marian pilgrimage site of Wambierzyce in Kłodzko.

Fragments of a statue of Saint John of Nepomuk, acquired at the community’s expense in 1777, have been preserved in Liberk; the front of its pedestal features a remarkable view of the village. A sandstone crucifix from 1834 stands at the entrance to the church precinct. The village also contains the masonry rural Chapel of the Coronation of the Virgin Mary, dating from around the middle of the 18th century. A preserved rural farmstead ensemble, characteristic of the Rychnov region, has also survived.

The remains of Rychmberk Castle lie on a spur above the Liberský potok stream on the western edge of the municipality of Liberk. The core of Rychmberk was separated from the surrounding terrain by a neck ditch approximately 25 metres wide and around 6.5 metres deep. A rock-cut well has survived in the former outer bailey of Rychmberk. A path leading to the castle runs along the southern slope of the hill and is still clearly visible today.

The skeletal figure of Liberk is explained by two local legends. One Liberk legend tells that a cruel burgrave was buried in an old crypt in front of the church altar. Liberk Castle is an important archaeological site.

A blue-marked hiking trail leads downhill from Liberk into the valley of the Liberský potok stream. The route from Liberk into the valley passes through quiet sections of forest and is accompanied by the sound of a babbling stream.
