Rychnov Nad Kneznou: Hotels and Accommodation
Rychnov nad Kněžnou can be explored through its historic buildings, exhibitions, and programmes related to the town. The castle, art collections, Jewish memorial sites, and family activities each offer their own way of discovering the city.
Culture
The castle in Rychnov nad Kněžnou, the ancestral seat of the Kolowrat family, is one of the town’s important Baroque monuments. It offers guided tours of the historic interiors; the tours are accessible only with a guide. The main rooms of the Orlická galerie are located on the second floor of Kolowrat Castle. The Church of the Holy Trinity has a stage-like façade by J. B. Santini. The historic townscape is complemented by the late-Renaissance, four-sided bell tower dating from 1604.
The Orlická galerie documents Czech fine art from the transition between the 19th and 20th centuries to the present day. The focus is on works connected with the Orlické Mountains and Podorlicko. The permanent exhibition “Malíři Orlických hor” has been permanently expanded to include the exhibition “Malíři v Říčkách” from the collections of the Orlická galerie.
History
The original synagogue in Rychnov nad Kněžnou, dating from the 17th century, was destroyed by fire and rebuilt in 1782. Visits to the synagogue are organised by the Rychnov nad Kněžnou Municipal Information Centre. It also offers the playful family programme “Za ztracenou Tórou”.
The Jewish Museum of Podorlicko and the memorial to Karel Poláček document the history of Judaism in the Podorlicko region. At the same time, they convey the life of the writer Karel Poláček, who was born in Rychnov nad Kněžnou. The Jewish cemetery was established in 1616 together with the memorial hall of the Jewish community. It is located in the “Na Láni” district, from where it offers a beautiful view of the Orlické Mountains.

Children can try out some of the toys on display themselves, including the particularly popular marble runs. The Expozice M.D.Rettigové is located on the first floor of the historic town hall in Rychnov nad Kněžnou, next to the Muzeum hraček.
