Culture
The Městské muzeum Žacléř has five permanent exhibitions covering regional history, important personalities, hard-coal mining with a history spanning more than 400 years, the lives of the local population and porcelain production at the Pohl Brothers porcelain factory, founded in 1878. The porcelain collection of Václav Petira includes 800 objects on display there and documents porcelain production at the Pohl Brothers factory.
The Hornický skanzen Žacléř is the last preserved monument of underground hard-coal mining in eastern Bohemia. At the open-air museum, the Štola Jitřenka leads approximately seven metres below the surface. Visitors can see and touch two coal seams there and learn about the combination of steel “hajcmanová” and wooden timbering. The hoist tower of the Jan shaft offers views of the panorama of the Krkonoše Mountains and Královecký Špičák.
In the surrounding area of Žacléř, a guided tour of the Dělostřelecká tvrz Stachelberg leads through more than one kilometre of unfinished passages and halls to a depth of 50 metres below the surface.
Landscape
In the surrounding area of Žacléř, the Eliška observation tower is open free of charge during the day from 1 April to 30 November; in winter, it is open in favourable weather conditions. From there, the view extends over Žacléř, across the Libavské sedlo to Poland and over the extensive Vraní Mountains.
Dvorský les is also located in the surrounding area of Žacléř, as part of the Rýchor ridge. The beech primeval forest stretches at an altitude of almost 1,000 metres.
Things to do
The 16-kilometre Žacléřská naučná trasa leads through the history of Žacléř and its districts. At Růžový palouček in Černá voda, it also commemorates J. A. Komenský. A free map of the Žacléřská naučná trasa is available at IC Žacléř.
From spring to autumn, mountain bikes, trekking bikes and racing bikes are listed as suitable bicycle types in Žacléř. In August, the operation of the tourist rail bikes in Žacléř was also extended to Fridays. The ride on the actual railway line from Žacléř towards Lampertice offers children and adults an unusual railway experience as well as views of the Krkonoše Mountains.
