Markoušovice combines historic buildings, a protected natural site, and a cycling route with a lookout tower.

Culture and history

The Church of St. John the Baptist in Markoušovice is a Baroque building dating from 1771 to 1787; its tower was added in 1884. Usedlost čp. 1 in Markoušovice is a rural building complex with a barn and stables, documenting rural architecture from the late 16th century.

The cast-iron statue of Emperor Joseph II was originally created to commemorate the centenary of the abolition of serfdom. A colorful statue of Emperor Joseph II can be seen on private property next to holiday cottage No. 95 in Markoušovice.

Nature

The protected natural site Bledulové louky lies above Markoušovice in the direction of Jestřebí hory. Its snowdrop meadows can be observed in spring; araucarites, meaning petrified wood from trees, can also be seen in the surrounding area.

Cycling and viewpoints

Cycling route 3 runs from Malé Svatoňovice via Markoušovice, Paseka, and Odolov back to Malé Svatoňovice. It is 22.2 kilometers long, has an elevation gain of 312 meters, is of medium difficulty, and is suitable for mountain bikes, trekking bikes, and e-bikes.

The route leads via a more demanding climb to the Slavětínská rozhledna lookout tower, also known as Markoušovická rozhledna, on the Markoušovický hřeben ridge. Built in 2014, the tower stands at an elevation of 708 meters above sea level and is 23 meters high overall. From Markoušovice, it can be reached via unmarked paths. Access is on foot or by mountain bike from cycling routes 4090 and 4091; only a forest path leads to the lookout tower.
