Velky Vrestov: Hotels and Accommodation

The educational trail Po stopách vřešťovské krásy is just under three kilometres long and follows comfortable roads and paths through the immediate surroundings of Velký Vřešťov. It is suitable for small children and pushchairs. Cycle route 4271 also passes through Velký Vřešťov, running from Doubravice via Lanžov, Velký Vřešťov and Jeřičky to Lužany.

Culture and History

The Baroque Roman Catholic Church of All Saints in Velký Vřešťov was rebuilt in 1723 after an earlier church was destroyed by fire. Inside there is a Renaissance pulpit donated by Jan Duchek Borovnický in 1615, as well as the tombstone of Věnek Kordule ze Sloupna and his wife Johanka. A historic pillory stands in front of the church.

The inner area of the former Velký Vřešťov castle is surrounded by a slightly lower outer bailey, a parkán; along its eastern edge, the remains of a rampart-like fortification have been preserved.

Pond and Shore

The main beach of Velkovřešťovský rybník is grassy, and the bottom at the water's edge is gravelly. Swimming in Velký Vřešťov pond is at your own risk. Fishing is permitted in the pond, except at the designated beach.

Nature

Vřešťovská bažantnice is a protected nature reserve with an old floodplain oak forest and rich herbaceous vegetation around the Trotina. There are old oaks, hornbeams and alders, as well as springs and wetlands; downstream, the Trotina flows with a historic channel.

Visitors should observe the fencing around Vřešťovská bažantnice and view the protected area from its edges rather than entering the forest or going to the springs and pools.
