Around Nové Sedlo, sacred architectural history, a remarkable railway tradition, and clearly named landscape features come together. The individual sites and structures range from a wooden church and a Baroque chapel to a reservoir, a viewpoint, and mountains in the surrounding area.
Culture and history
The Church of the Ascension of the Lord in Nové Sedlo was built predominantly of wood in 1904. As a pseudo-Gothic half-timbered church, it features elements of Art Nouveau and folk architecture. The stone Baroque chapel in Nové Sedlo was built by the Engel family in the first half of the 18th century. At an unspecified time after 2006, it was completely reconstructed; its exterior areas are accessible.
Railway history is also one of the distinctive cultural references: The historic railway line from Nové Sedlo to Loket is considered the oldest local railway in the Czech lands. The monumental sculpture “Trouba z Jericha” by Aleš Veselý dates from 1973.
In the wider regional surroundings of Nové Sedlo are the Schlackenwerth Monastery (a monastery) and Zwota, Church (a church).
Landscape
Anna Reservoir is an artificially created multipurpose body of water with an area of 4 ha. The “Pískový Vrch” viewpoint offers a view of the Družba open-pit mine.
Buková, Chrudim, Lobezský vrch, and Špičák are mountains in the vicinity of Nové Sedlo.
Getting around
Railway line No. 144 runs through the area between Nové Sedlo and the municipality of Krásný Jez; today, the Loket–Nová Role section is in operation. New cycle paths are available in the Chodov–Chranišov–Nové Sedlo–Loučky area.
