Dessendorf: Hotels and Accommodation

The Černá Desná natural monument protects a valley with a mountain stream, a series of waterfalls, rapids, rock slabs, and erosion formations such as huge potholes and plunge pools. The protected area also includes an adjacent hillside forest with the character of an acidic beech forest and endangered herb species.

Culture and History

Riedelova vila houses a cultural and information centre, a library, and a museum with permanent exhibitions on regional history and the Riedel glassmaking family, historical documents, and glass. The traditional Sympozium Desná – dřevosochání motorovými pilami is held on the grounds every year.

The Riedelova hrobka is a family crypt built in 1889–1890 in the form of a chapel with a crypt, in the Neo-Romanesque-Gothic style. It stands on the boundary between Desná II, formerly Potočná, and Desná III, Dolní Polubný.

The 4 km circular trail Po stopách skláře Riedela leads through Desná past cultural monuments and sights near the town centre, as well as places that once belonged to the Riedel family. The surviving remains of the Protržená přehrada near Desná were declared a cultural monument in 1996.

Zamek Chojnik, Zamek Gryf, and Czocha - Zamek XIVw. are named castles in the wider regional surroundings of Desná. Spalona Strażnica is a named ruin in the wider regional surroundings of Desná.

Winter and Railway

The Černá Říčka ski resort lies on the outskirts of Desná at an altitude of 685–788 m and offers skiing on natural snow. The rack railway route from Tanvald to Harrachov begins at the Desná – Riedelova vila stop; its maximum gradient is 58 per mille.
