Plaw: Hotels and accommodations
Plavy lies in a valley surrounded by hills at the foot of Mikšova hora mountain. The town is situated on the right bank of the Kamenice River and also extends along both banks of the Skalice stream.
Location and history
The road and railway line from Železný Brod to Tanvald–Šumburk run through the center of Plavy. At the entrance to the Palackého stezka were the J. Liebig a spol. company’s factory as well as workers’ and employees’ houses known as “Mlýnskách.” The local J. company spinning mill in Mlýnskách began operating in 1854.
The development of the Palackého stezka is also connected with Plavy: the first section from Plavy to Navarov was built in 1912 and was 3,130 m long. The ČSA Museum in Plavy is a nonprofit cultural and sports organization dedicated to protecting and preserving military history monuments.
Hiking and cycling
The Palackého stezka begins in Plavy and leads through the Kamenice Valley with landscapes that have a wild character. It follows the Kamenice River through wild-looking landscapes and over more challenging terrain to the ruins of Navarov Castle, which dates from the 14th century. One route begins at Plavy railway station and follows a yellow hiking trail marker to the Palackého stezka.
For cycling, marked cycle route 4251 leads directly into the center of Plavy from Zásada to Zlatá Olešnice.
Winter sports
The Plavy ski resort is located above Plavy on the northern side of Filoun Hill below the Černá Studnice ridge. It has a 610 m-long Poma lift, a children’s rope lift, and three slopes ranging from 720 m to 1,080 m in length. The ski resort offers beginners ski lessons at a ski school.
Events
Plavy hosts the ČP Kamenice rafting competition, which is listed in the 2026 national calendar as a public R4 race. At the 2024 rafting event, the start was in Haratice Dolenec, where participants entered the Palackého stezka.
Plavy is also associated with editions of “Lety na sanĂch” from 2002 to 2005, as well as an edition held on February 18, 2023.
