Brniště: Hotels and Accommodation

Brniště combines nature, art and history along several specifically named routes and at various locations. The range extends from works of art and a chapel to stations covering ponds, forests and forest animals.

Culture

Along the “Glass Trail” are works by Bořek Šípek, Jiří Pačinek, and Czech and German children. The Glass Trail leads to the Schröter Chapel on the hill above the town; from there, it offers beautiful views of the landscape.

Nature

The Hastrmanů Trail introduces visitors to the local nature and life around ponds and streams. Nine themed stations feature original play elements, a water playground and opportunities to observe waterfowl. The route is approximately 6 kilometres long and can also be walked with a pushchair.

The Sculptures in the Rocks Trail includes a rest area next to a chapel rediscovered in 1863. The trail is 1.2 kilometres long.

The Living Forest Trail, also called Brniště Forest Park, is a 0.6-kilometre educational trail near Brniště railway station and was opened in July 2020. Six educational and playful stations focus on life in the forest and forest animals.

Water

A sandstone sculpture of the water sprite “Vráťa I. a Jediný” stands at the centrally located Vratislav Pond. The pond is a habitat for a variety of aquatic plants, water animals and insects.

History

The first official mention of the Church of Saint Nicholas in Brniště dates from 1384. The church probably already stood there in 1359. Together with the former fortress site, it includes an old cemetery with preserved gravestones, an enclosing wall with a gate and a mortuary.

Getting There

In 2023, train connections from Brniště railway station operated to Liberec, Mimoň and Česká Lípa.
