History

South of Hamr na Jezeře, beyond Hamerské jezero, lie the ruins of Děvín Castle, dating from the 13th century. The castle was founded before 1250 by the Markvartici family.

In the 16th century, Hamr na Jezeře had a mill on the Ploučnice as well as several iron hammers. They processed limonite extracted from nearby Děvín and its surroundings. The neo-Gothic Chapel of Panny Marie Pomocnice křesťanů stands on Křížový vrch above Hamr na Jezeře. At the end of the 19th century, Hamr na Jezeře became a sought-after spa resort.

Cycling Trails

The Ploučnice cycling trail is signposted as cycling route number 15 and runs from the source of the Ploučnice at the foot of Ještěd to the point where the Ploučnice flows into the Elbe in Děčín. Its second stage begins in Hamr na Jezeře and leads to Stráž pod Ralskem and Mimoň.
