Újezd: Hotels and accommodations

In Újezd, the archaeological area “středov. sídelní jednotky Chvistec, Popelov, lomy” encompasses the cadastral territory of Újezd u Jestřebí. It lies in the valley of the Švábský potok and on the upland plateaus above it.

Landscape

Historical sandstone quarries are located in the valley of the Švábský potok. Several caves and rock overhangs bearing traces of human activity lie in the valley’s side gorges; historical rock carvings can also be found there.

Culture and history

At the eastern edge of Újezd, next to the Neoclassical Church of St. Nicholas, lies the excursion destination of Hradištěk. Hradištěk preserves the remains of a medieval fortress from the 14th century. The visible remains include a prominent hill forming the castle core, as well as large sections of the surrounding moat and ramparts.

The Baroque rural Chapel of Our Lady of Help, built in 1730, is located in Újezd, which is now a district of the municipality of Jestřebí. It has a circular central floor plan, a façade with a volute gable, and a roof turret with a bell, cupola, and cross. Újezd was founded by ancestors of the Lobkovic family, who were based there.

Getting around

Within the municipality of Jestřebí, a cycle route runs from the railway station toward Sluneční Dvůr; it ends at Zákupy Chateau. As of 2014, no marked hiking trail led to Újezd. The road from Jestřebí was indicated as the best access route.
