Zákupy Chateau has a passenger elevator dating from 1870, considered the oldest surviving elevator in the Czech Republic.

History and culture

Zákupy Chateau includes a French garden with two-level terraces, balustrades, niches and caryatids, as well as an English park with an avenue, diverse groups of trees and a pond with islands. On Svobody Square stands the Baroque sculpture ensemble “Nejsvětější trojice” from 1708; it is 14 metres high.

The restored former stables in the service courtyard of Zákupy Chateau are open to visitors. The first floor houses the “Zapomenuté zámky” exhibition, and a time-lapse documentary film is also shown.

The historic stone bridge “Kamenný most se sochami” near the Capuchin monastery connects the area at the eastern exit of Mírové Square. It dates from the early 18th century and is decorated with statues of Saint Blaise, Saint Procopius, Saint Cosmas, Saint Valentine, Saint Walburga and Saint Damian. The bridge and statues were reconstructed in 2015–2016. Another historic stone bridge over the Svitava near the plague cemetery was built in 1849.

In the vicinity of Zákupy is the Chapel of the Holy Trinity. In the wider regional surroundings of Zákupy lies the ruin of Starý Berštejn.

Nature

Kamenický vrch near Zákupy is one of the most interesting volcanic localities in North Bohemia and lies in the immediate vicinity of Zákupy. Špičák, Zelený vrch and Malá Buková are located in the surroundings of Zákupy.

Things to do

A hike involving an ascent of Kamenický vrch has a total length of approximately 6 km, including the return journey. The “Malý zákupský okruh” cycle route starts at the square in Zákupy, passes the outdoor swimming pool and continues through Nové Zákupy.

The outdoor swimming pool in Zákupy offers paddleboard rental. There is on-site parking at the outdoor swimming pool in Zákupy; from the square in Zákupy, it is signposted after approximately 500 metres along Mimoňská Street.
