Holenice: Hotels and accommodation

Holenice is located in the Český ráj area, whose municipal territory forms part of the Český ráj UNESCO Geopark. The Český ráj contains a wealth of natural, cultural, historical, and geological sites concentrated within a small area.

Nature and landscape

The village lies in a picturesque valley on the Boučnice stream between Lomnice nad Popelkou, Rovensko pod Troskami, and Libuň. The road from Veselá offers a broad view of Holenice and the houses along the Boučnice stream.

At the northern edge of the municipality lies the Holenický quarry, in a forest on a sharp bend in the road from Veselá, on the right bank of the Boučnice stream. The quarry is a geological and palaeontological site of national importance.

History and culture

The present-day masonry hunting lodge was built in 1870 by Count Aehrenthal for 6,000 guilders. The former hunting lodge is considered the oldest building in Holenice and formerly belonged to the Hrubá Skála estate. A manorial farm originally stood on this site; a wooden hunting lodge was later built there.

The former hunting lodge’s hunting grounds covered 569 hectares of spruce forest. The local history is also connected with garnet processing: grinding garnets at home was once one of the main sources of income for Holenice’s residents. In 1628, the village passed to Albrecht von Wallenstein, who incorporated it into the Hruboskalsko estate.

Getting there and orientation

IDOL bus route 553 connects Rovensko pod Troskami and Lomnice nad Popelkou via Holenice. It serves the Holenice, Staré Holenice, and Holenice lom stops. Holenice can be reached by train via the Jivany stop.
