Slana: Hotels and accommodation

Slaná combines evidence of local history with signposted trails and a clearly defined geological valley setting. In the village and its districts, you will encounter buildings, craft traditions, theatrical performances and distinctive landscape features.

Culture and local history

Next to the primary school building stands an iron cross cast in 1840. Its pedestal is made of grey sandstone and was crafted by Jan Zeman from Žernov. Slaná is also home to the listed House No. 43, a cultural heritage site worthy of preservation. There is also a bell tower in the cemetery.

The academic painter Vladimír Komárek was born in Hořensko, a district of Slaná. The well-preserved timber houses Nos. 5, 25 and 45 are located in the district of Bořkov.

Landscape and watercourse

Slaná lies in a valley surrounded by hilly terrain. The geological bedrock consists of Permocarboniferous rocks from the younger Paleozoic, including melaphyre, as well as local Tertiary formations with basalt intrusions.

The Hořenský stream crosses the municipality from west to east. It rises near Tuháň, a district of Stružinec, is 2.73 km long and flows into the Oleška in the district of Bořkov.

Trails through the region

Cycle Route No. 4175 runs through Slaná and connects the village with the Český ráj and Krkonoše regions. A blue-marked hiking trail also leads from Slaná to Lomnice nad Popelkou, while a green-marked hiking trail runs to Jilemnice.

Crafts and community life

In the past, flax cultivation in the Slaná area was one of the few sources of income for the ancestors living in this poor region. Flax was processed at home; according to records in the municipal chronicle, the last hand weaver, Josef Ducháč from House No. 17, worked on a hand loom until 1914.

The Tyl Slaná theatre ensemble has mainly comedies in its repertoire. It also stages performances by its own and visiting groups, social evenings and musical events.
