Vysoke Nad Jizerou: Hotels and Accommodations

A regular event in Vysoké nad Jizerou is Krakonošův divadelní podzim, an annual festival of rural theater ensembles that regularly takes place in Vysoké nad Jizerou in mid-October.

Culture

The stone Church of St. Catherine was built between 1725 and 1734 around an older wooden church; a vestibule was added in 1817. Another special feature is preserved by the Vlastivědné muzeum, founded in 1930: it houses the restored moving Christmas nativity scene by Jan Metelka “Kovárenský” from Sklenařice. It was created between 1878 and 1914 and is considered an outstanding work of folk art.

The Vysocká pouť is a traditional pilgrimage event. Its main program takes place in náměstí Dr. Karla Kramáře, with the accompanying program at Divadlo Krakonoš. The Divadelní okruh begins in the town square of Vysoké nad Jizerou and was established on August 17, 1986, on the occasion of celebrations marking the 200th anniversary of the local amateur theater.

Paths and Landscape

The Skijácká stezka in Vysoké nad Jizerou is approximately 3 km long and runs along paved and forest paths. It is suitable for pedestrians, cyclists, and especially parents with children and strollers. Along the route are three play elements with ball runs that teach children, in a playful way, about the cycle of life in nature.

Městské sady, also known as Park básníků, are located behind Divadlo Krakonoš and include a pavilion with a relief map of the Czech and Polish sides of the Krkonoše Mountains. From there, a panorama of the Krkonoše Mountains opens up, dominated by the peak of Kotel, also known as Kokrháč.

Winter

The first ski jumping competitions in Vysoké nad Jizerou took place in 1905; later, several ski jumping hills were built, including those in Šachty. Skiareál Šachty is located on the outskirts of Vysoké nad Jizerou. It has a 900 m-long anchor lift, four children’s lifts, and a beginner’s ski park on Petruškovy vrchy. There are also several cross-country skiing circuits; detailed race courses are listed with lengths of 1 to 3 km.

Local Speciality

Vysocké zelí is associated with the pre-cultivation of cabbage seedlings, known as hlavatka, which was carried out in Vysoké nad Jizerou for more than 100 years.
