Hornà Benešov was founded as a mining town in 1253. The silver mines of Hornà Benešov were among the oldest silver mines in the country; mining was carried out here intermittently until 1992.
History and Architectural Heritage
The cultural monuments of Hornà Benešov include the Gothic parish Church of St. Catherine and the wall surrounding it. The Church of St. Catherine is a Baroque building on medieval foundations. The cemetery chapel of the Virgin Mary was built in 1893 and has a unified Neo-Gothic interior.
The sandstone statue of Saint John of Nepomuk is a Baroque sculpture from the second half of the 18th century. Lichnovské šance are considered to be fortifications from the Thirty Years' War or artillery redoubts from the Seven Years' War.
Routes and Activities
Lichnovské šance can be reached via a forest path leading north from Luhy, a district of Hornà Benešov. Regional cycling route No. 6160 runs through the cadastral area of Hornà Benešov.
Bus route 811 runs between Krnov and Hornà Benešov. Hobby-horsing training takes place every Monday from 4:00 p.m. at the sports field in Luhy. HHC/HB MAAT (Hobby Horse Club Hornà Benešov) is an official regional member club of the Česká Hobby Horsing Asociace; such clubs organize regular training sessions that you can join.
Hornà Benešov is one of the municipalities in the Slezská Harta microregion. The Slezská Harta area offers sightseeing trips.
