Mala Moravka: Hotels and Accommodation

A particular focus is on winter sports: the Karlov Ski Arena has six blue ski runs with gentle slopes. Three ski schools with professional ski instructors are available there for children and adults. Night skiing in Karlov includes two express chairlifts and 5,300 m of illuminated ski runs.

Nature and Trails

The Velká kotlina educational trail begins in Karlov pod Pradědem and runs along the Moravice River through the Praděd National Nature Reserve. Along the route, 11 stations provide information about botany, zoology and geology. Another route, Kolem Ježkova Lesa, is 1.5 km long and is designed as a family route for the youngest children as well as for pedestrians, cyclists and mountain scooter riders. It begins in the car park at the valley station of the Karlov Ski Express.

The area of European importance Javorový vrch, which is not accessible to the public, is also part of the natural environment. Javorový vrch in Malá Morávka is also one of the five most important wintering areas in the Czech Republic for the barbastelle bat (Barbastella barbastellus), the greater mouse-eared bat (Myotis myotis) and the lesser horseshoe bat (Rhinolophus hipposideros).

History and Culture

The new parish church of the Holy Trinity in Malá Morávka was completed in 1793 and ceremonially consecrated on 22 October 1793. Devonian iron ore was mined in the mines on Javorový vrch in Malá Morávka from around the 13th century until 1870.

Cuisine

The recurring Borůvkové hody take place in Malá Morávka as well as in Karlov pod Pradědem and the surrounding area. During the Borůvkové hody, a free “Borůvková linka” connects the official restaurants in Malá Morávka and Karlov pod Pradědem. At the Borůvkové hody in Malá Morávka, fresh chilled blueberries, blueberry beer, blueberry dumplings and blueberry cake are offered.
