Brauntal: Hotels and Accommodation

In Brauntal, Zámek Bruntál was rebuilt at the end of the 16th century from an originally late Gothic castle on the town wall into a Renaissance chateau. Its floor plan forms a segment of a circle; the chateau includes arcades in the courtyard and a clock tower.

Culture and History

The most valuable interiors of Zámek Bruntál are open to the public. They include a chapel on the ground floor, as well as halls on the first floor with Rococo wall paintings and original furnishings.

Two permanent museum exhibitions are open to visitors in the oldest part of Zámek Bruntál, the so-called Old Palace dating from the early 16th century: “Příroda Bruntálska” and “Řemeslo má zlaté dno – řemesla a živnosti bruntálského regionu”.

The natural history collection of Muzeum v Bruntále covers geology, botany, zoology and entomology. Muzeum v Bruntále can be reached on foot, by bicycle, by car, by bus and by train.

The parish church Farní kostel is the oldest stone building in Bruntál. Since September 2024, the viewing tower of the parish church Farní kostel has offered views of Bruntál and its surroundings.

The Piarist monastery in Bruntál was the largest Baroque-era building in the town. It contributed to the town’s cultural development; the grammar school housed there laid the foundations for the local theatre scene. The Gabrielův dům civic building in Bruntál served as the town museum in the 1950s.

Parks and Open Spaces

The chateau park of Zámek Bruntál contains remnants of Bruntál’s former town wall, a bastion, a ground-level Sala terrena and 11 sculptures. It covers 2.5 hectares and is used for concerts.

Nature and Landscape

Uhlířský vrch is considered the youngest extinct volcano in the Czech Republic. The area is protected as a natural monument and covers 4.7 hectares. A new educational trail route runs through the Uhlířský vrch protected area.

From Uhlířský vrch, visitors can see valleys, mountains, hills, meadows and fields in all directions.
