Rudná pod Pradědem: Hotels and Accommodation

Rudná pod Pradědem lies in the foothills of the Jeseníky Mountains and is connected with the major tourism, recreation and ski centres in the vicinity of Praděd. The history of the village includes the discovery of gold in the Černý potok stream and the establishment of a gold-washing site, which preceded the founding of the village.

Landscape

The northern and western parts of Nová Rudná lie within the Jeseníky Protected Landscape Area. Numerous protected plant and animal species occur in this area, including critically endangered species. Original sycamore maple and beech stands grow on the slopes of the 782-metre-high elevation.

Village Character

Nová Rudná is devoted exclusively to recreation, while Stará Rudná has the character of a rural settlement with a pronounced residential and commercial-agricultural function.

History

Gold was mined in Stará Rudná from 1671 to 1742, with the towns of Andělská Hora, Bruntál and Vrbno involved in the mining. The folk term “hornický výval” for the oldest part of the village on the Černý potok stream is evidence of the early mining activity.

Culture

Stará Rudná is home to the Church of Saint John the Baptist, a distinctive landmark of the municipality of Rudná pod Pradědem. The church dates from 1655; original wall paintings have been preserved inside. The centre of Rudná pod Pradědem is also home to a Baroque statue of Saint John of Nepomuk, created in 1744.

Activities

The Nová Rudná–Ranná cross-country skiing route is 2.3 km long and includes 83 m of ascent and 14 m of descent. The “Rudenská jarní všestrannost” equestrian event is scheduled for 8 May 2026 at JK Amír in Rudná pod Pradědem.
