The history of Rýmařov is visible in its buildings, exhibitions and archaeological traces.
Culture and History
Rýmařov Town Hall was declared a cultural monument in 1966. The Rýmařov parish house is also a cultural monument and is one of the oldest and most valuable buildings in the historic town centre.
Kaple V Lipkách is considered a gem of North Moravian Baroque. From 2013 onwards, it was opened not only to parishioners and pilgrims, but also to tourists and visitors to the town.
The “History of Rýmařov” exhibition presents finds from the period beginning with the town’s foundation in the 1270s through to the 15th century.
In St Michael’s Church in Rýmařov, a simple Baroque rosary chapel was built on the left side of the church hall in 1688. The chapel, altar and gallery are among its original features. The altarpiece oil painting depicting the Virgin Mary, Saint Dominic and Saint Catherine of Siena was created around 1725 by the renowned Jan Kryštof Handke, who came from Janovice.
Townscape and Archaeological Sites
The townscape of Rýmařov is characterised by a large number of houses with black roofs. These include roofs made of original slate as well as roofs with newer coverings.
Hrádek – Castle Ruins is a protected archaeological site and serves as the outdoor area of the geological exhibition of the Rýmařov Town Museum. At Hrádek, there is a replica of the foundations of a residential building of the town castle, with an attached heating installation illustrating the situation at the end of the 13th century.
Exhibitions and Events
The external exhibition of the Rýmařov Town Museum is located in the building of the HEDVA ČESKÝ BROKÁT textile factory.
The Marie Kodovská Gallery is located in the artist’s former home on Mlýnská Street and displays her works of art as well as objects she used.
The Dřevařské, lesnické a myslivecké dny take place annually in Flemmichova zahrada and offer, among other things, logging competitions, demonstrations of modern forestry and timber-harvesting technology, hunting traditions, regional stalls, refreshments and an extensive programme of accompanying events.
