Frýdlant nad Ostravicí lies in the Ostravice Valley below Lysá hora and forms a gateway to the Moravian-Silesian Beskids at the foot of the mountains. For many years, the Frýdlant nad Ostravicí Tourist Information Centre has organised themed guided tours entitled “In the Footsteps of Frýdlant Cast Iron and Enamel”. They convey the past and present of the industrial sector that has played an important role in the city’s development.

Culture and History

The Chapel of the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary was consecrated on 5 November 1876. It was built in the Neo-Romanesque style, decorated with paintings and fitted with a wooden ceiling. The chapel also serves visitors as a place for spiritual and cultural activities.

The Church of St Bartholomew was built between 1672 and 1690 and extended in the first half of the 18th century. It has been a protected immovable cultural monument since 3 May 1958. The Ferdiš Duša monument is located in the Frýdlant nad Ostravicí Cultural Centre. The “Gallery of Artistic Enamel and Cast Iron” presents the history of enamel production in Frýdlant as well as historic cast iron from the 19th and early 20th centuries.

Nature

The Vyhlídka Forest Trail is 1 km long, has eight stations and focuses on the local nature and wildlife. It can be reached directly by car or on foot in approximately 10 to 15 minutes from Frýdlant nad Ostravicí railway station.
