Žabeň: Hotels and Accommodation

Žabeň lies in an area bordered by the Olešná and Ostravice rivers. The Ostravice is also the historic border river between Silesia and Moravia.

Nature and Cycling Trails

Long-distance cycle route No. 59 Ostrava–Beskydy runs through Žabeň. The Slezská brána Region Association of Municipalities, together with Vratimov, Paskov, Řepiště, Žabeň and Sviadnov as partners, participated in a 7,380 m-long project section of the Ostrava–Beskydy cycling connection between Vratimov and Sviadnov.

The Ostravice floodplain near Žabeň is designated as the regional “U Žabně” biocorridor. A Natura 2000 European protected area is also located along the Ostravice.

Culture and History

The first documented mention of Žabeň dates from around 1460.

In the garden of the Lukšík family, at house no. 128, there is a remarkable miniature town built by Vladislav Jančík, whose centre is formed by a magnificent castle.

The local chapel is known as the Chapel of Saint Fabian and Saint Sebastian. In a document from 1838 kept in the parish church in Paskov, the inhabitants of Žabeň undertook to build a chapel dedicated to Saint Sebastian; this was carried out.

Stolbergův jez is a weir at the place where water was diverted from the Ostravice River to Paskov.

Events

The “Velká cena Žabně” is a cycling race for children and young people. On 10 May 2025, it took place at “Visalaje”, the fire brigade sports field; it was listed again for 2026.

The “O pohár starosty obce Žabeň” competition has been held repeatedly. The 38th edition took place on 9 June 2012 at the fire brigade sports field in Žabeň.

TJ Sokol Žabeň and the municipality of Žabeň invited people on an adventurous Christmas journey to discover the story of Christmas and experience a festive atmosphere.
