Hrčava: Hotels and Accommodation

At the Hrčava Tri-border, the borders of Czechia, Poland and Slovakia meet. Three granite monoliths mark the border point; a covered wooden shelter stands nearby.

Geographical setting

The Czech approach from Hrčava to the Hrčava Tri-border leads between wooden houses through a village on a highland shaped by meadows and small fields.

Trails

A yellow-marked trail leads 2 km from the centre of Hrčava to the Hrčava Tri-border. A red-marked hiking trail leads from Hrčava over 5.5 km to Gírová.

The 11 km route “Around the Tri-border” begins in Hrčava, leads through Jaworzynka and Čierne, and returns to Hrčava. On the “Across Three Countries in One Day” route, Hrčava is at kilometre 10.9; there, the route passes the wooden Church of Saints Cyril and Methodius, the three granite monoliths and the Polish border crossing.

Culture

The wooden Church of Saints Cyril and Methodius in Hrčava was built in 1936. It was designed by Karel Náhůnek and features a carved wooden baptismal font by Ondřej Zogata, who was from Hrčava.

On the outside, the Church of Saints Cyril and Methodius combines a wooden construction typical of the Těšín region with modern architectural elements inside. It is registered as an immovable cultural monument under identification number ÚSKP 107055 and is considered the youngest traditionally designed wooden church in Czechia, as well as a significant example of sacred interwar architecture.

The regional mini-museum in Hrčava Primary School can be visited in the company of Mr Vojkovský; further information is available at the self-service shop. The Cyril and Methodius pilgrimage takes place in Hrčava every year on 5 July.

The Lurdská jeskyně in Hrčava was established as a place of devotion and consecrated on 5 July 1937 on the occasion of the Hrčava pilgrimage. According to tradition, the water at the grotto is said to heal eye ailments.

History

An old customs house still stands beside a forest path between Hrčava and Jaworzynka; it once protected the border, especially from smugglers.

Getting there

A signposted car park with sufficient capacity is available at the entrance to Hrčava. Hrčava can be reached by bus from Mosty u Jablunkova railway station.
