Hukvaldy: Hotels and Accommodation

Nature

Hradní vrch Hukvaldy was designated a nature monument in 1999. The 77-hectare protected area preserves beech stands and the landscape design of the historic game reserve. The Hukvaldy game reserve lies around the ruins of Hukvaldy Castle, covers 440 hectares and, across an area of approximately 220 hectares, is designated as a European protected area.

Fallow deer and mouflon can be observed in the Hukvaldy game reserve, which is open year-round.

Trails

The Hradní vrch educational trail is a 2 km circular route from the square in Hukvaldy through the game reserve gate to the castle ruins and back. The educational circular route “Leoš Janáček through the Eyes of Children” is 8.3 km long and has 13 information boards about Leoš Janáček, Hukvaldy and Dolní Sklenov. Most of this educational trail can be completed by bicycle or with a sports stroller.

The 6001 cycling loop “Hukvaldy–Kopřivnice–Příbor” is 9.5 km long, suitable for trekking bikes and mountain bikes, and gives cyclists access to the Větřkovice Reservoir from the direction of Hukvaldy and Příbor. The “Around Hukvaldy” route starts and ends at the birthplace of Leoš Janáček and is 8.6 km long.

Culture

Hukvaldy Castle serves as a center of cultural life. The castle grounds and the adjacent game reserve host the international Janáček’s Hukvaldy music festival every year.

The Leoš Janáček Memorial preserves the reception room, bedroom and kitchen in the condition they were in during Janáček’s lifetime. The Church of Saint Maximilian in Hukvaldy is open to visitors; Leoš Janáček played the organ there.

A bronze statue of the vixen Bystrouška stands in the Hukvaldy game reserve. It was erected in June 1959 to commemorate the premiere of Janáček’s opera “The Cunning Little Vixen” (“Příhody lišky Bystroušky”).

Other Places

Hukvaldský Stonehenge is a rest area at a weir with symbolically arranged stones connected with the work of Leoš Janáček, as well as an acoustic interactive element called Dendrafon.

Tropic Hukvaldy includes an Asian garden, tropical greenhouses with exotic plants and animals, and a seasonal exhibition of live butterflies.

Getting There

A direct bus connection from Ostrava serves the “Hukvaldy, hotel” stop. Hukvaldy Castle is open to the public from April to October.

At Hostinec U Štamgastů, visitors can taste local Hukvaldy yeast beer.
