Vendryně: Hotels and Accommodation
Vendryně combines cultural history with paths through nature and its own cycling route. Notable sites include the single-nave, brick-built Church of St. Catherine in the Gothic style; the townscape is complemented by the history of the lime kilns and circular routes of varying lengths.
Culture and History
The tower of the Church of St. Catherine once housed a particularly shaped bell, probably cast in the mid-15th century by bell founder Hans Freudenthal. A Baroque cross dating from 1790 stands in the nearby cemetery of the Church of St. Catherine.
The local “Wopiynky” were lime kilns in which limestone quarried in Vendryně was processed. The two restored Vápenné pece in Vendryně serve to introduce visitors to the history of this area and provide them with opportunities for relaxation.
Hiking and the Vápenné pece
The Vápenné pece are located 2 km from Vendryně railway stop; a green hiking trail leads to them from there.
The “Za krásami vendryňské přírody” trail consists of two separate circular routes. The two sections are approximately 10 km and 22 km long, respectively, and can be walked individually as half-day hikes or together as a full-day tour.
Cycling Route and Competition
The reconstructed Vendryňský kotár cycling route was ceremonially opened on 10 May 2008 and is marked with information signs. The Vendryňský kotár cycling race for children and adults, competing for the mayor’s cup, takes place on the route every year.
Visitor Information
The Pamětní síň obce Vendryně has irregular opening hours and can be visited by prior arrangement. A regular tour lasts 30 to 45 minutes.
