The entire municipal area of Morávka lies within the Beskydy Protected Landscape Area. The town is characterized by deep mountain valleys and wild mountain streams.
Nature and Water
In Morávka, the Travný Nature Reserve is listed as one of the designated protected areas. On the western slope of Travný, it protects natural remnants of forest stands at elevations ranging from 530 to 1,203 meters.
The Morávka Reservoir was built between 1961 and 1967, primarily as a source of drinking water and for flood protection. Because it is used for water supply, all recreational activities and fishing are prohibited on the reservoir.
The “Prameny Morávky” educational trail leads from the parking lot in the Lipové district through the Morávka valley to the river’s source. Its subject matter focuses on the Morávka River and several activities associated with it.
Hiking and Cycling Routes
Morávka has a dense network of marked hiking trails that has existed since the first half of the 20th century. It includes the ridge trail from Bílý Kříž via Prašivá.
An official cycling route also passes through the town: Route 6113 runs via Ostravice, Šance, Visalaje, Morávka, Raškovice, and Vyšní Lhoty, and thus through Morávka.
History and Cultural Heritage
The “Wolfram” educational trail comprises nine stations. They cover the dramatic circumstances of the operation and the individual members of the Wolfram parachute group, which was dropped into the Morávka valley in September 1944.
The “Noční přechod” partisan movement memorial, popularly known as “Tři hrbatí,” is located near the Lipové stop in Morávka. It has been a national cultural monument since 1978. A memorial plaque at the Partyzán restaurant also commemorates the court-martial held on December 14, 1944; it is located at the authentic site of the trial.
The timber-framed hayloft “Roubený seník” in Morávka was declared a cultural monument as early as 1958. Its exterior is accessible year-round.
Morávka is also connected with the history of a meteorite: a bright superbolide was observed on May 6, 2000. Three of its fragments are now held in the collections of the National Museum in Prague.
