Dolní Lutyně combines a distinctive sacred history with protected landscapes along the Olše and a regional cycling network. Cultural monuments, natural areas and Věřňovice create a diverse local character.

Culture and History

The Church of St John the Baptist in Dolní Lutyně was completed in 1746. Its single-nave body, two adjoining chapels and four-sided tower on the west façade define the building. The church and its main altar were consecrated on 9 September 1759.

Dolní Lutyně Chateau was declared a cultural monument on 4 October 1994. For groups, individual guided tours with explanations at Dolní Lutyně Chateau can be arranged in advance. The Rakusova-Stodola in Dolní Lutyně is also part of the historic local character; it is a valuable polygonal log barn from 1803 with a thatched roof.

In Věřňovice, a statue of St John of Nepomuk stands in front of the Chapel of St Isidore. It is a high-quality folk stone sculpture dating from around the turn of the 18th and 19th centuries. The war memorial of Věřňovice by the road to the border crossing also commemorates the year 1866; it is designed as a distinctive monument with a wrought-iron railing.

Nature

The Věřňovice Nature Monument protects a distinctive river terrace of the Olše with an almost natural forest stand and protected plant and animal species. The Niva Olše–Věřňovice European protected area includes, among others, the cadastral areas of Dolní Lutyně and Věřňovice.

An unusually large population of snowdrops (Galanthus nivalis) for the district occurs in the Věřňovice area. Spring snowflakes (Leucojum vernum) are rare there.

Cycling

Cycling Route 6257 runs along the Olše and Odra rivers and is suitable for cycle tourism. Most of the route follows asphalted or paved paths suitable for road bikes and trekking bikes.
