Havířov: Hotels and Accommodation

Sorela is the protected zone designated in 1992 encompassing the center of Havířov, built in the 1950s in the style of socialist realism. The protected zone comprises a complex of residential buildings bordered on one side by Stromovka Forest Park and extending on the other side to the meanders of the Lučina.

Nature

The Meanders of the Lučina are a protected natural monument extending for approximately 2.5 kilometers and covering a total area of 40.7 hectares. They include a naturally meandering watercourse, adjacent wetlands, and floodplain forests that provide a habitat for protected animal species.

History and Culture

The Životice Tragedy Memorial houses a permanent exhibition of the Museum of the Těšín Region entitled “Occupation and Resistance in the Těšín Region 1938–1945”. The Životice Tragedy Memorial commemorates the 36 men who were killed on August 6, 1944, in a Nazi reprisal action. The site is open to visitors by prior arrangement.

Kotulova dřevěnka is one of the oldest folk buildings constructed using log-building techniques in Cieszyn Silesia and is the last surviving evidence of the original development in the area of present-day Havířov. Since 1979, it has housed an exhibition on rural living around the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries.

Havířov Castle was ceremonially opened to the public on January 10, 1998.

Children and Events

The central Dětský zábavní park features climbing frames, swings, sandpits, and other attractions that can be used by children up to the age of 15.

The Havířovské slavnosti are a traditional project of the statutory city of Havířov. Their multidisciplinary program includes Czech and international music as well as a wide range of accompanying entertainment.
