Culture and History

The central Chapel of St. John of Nepomuk in Bítov was built before 1880. Mass is celebrated in the chapel once a month; a new Stations of the Cross leading to it has also been established in Bítov.

A fortified settlement once stood in the cadastral area of Bítov. Based on the place name Hradisko, it is assumed to have stood between the village and the former Bítov Mill; however, its exact location has not yet been determined.

Routes and Landscape

The more demanding, partly difficult cycle route 6192 passes through Bítov. It connects Bílovec with a recreational area on the Porubka. The Bílovecká padesátka hiking route follows the yellow-marked trail from the chapel below Bítov through Bítov to the Sezina Valley.

The forests surrounding Bítov on almost all sides offer good conditions for mushroom picking and gathering wild fruit.

At the site of Bítovský mlýn and immediately below it lies a partially waterlogged, lushly vegetated area that functions as a local biocenter or biocorridor. In Vesník, the so-called I. Pond is the second pond in a cascade of four ponds.

Local Traditions

Rybí hody is a recurring local festival held in Vesník near Bítov. Frying eggs, locally called “snožky,” is a tradition in Bítov passed down from parents and grandparents.
