A first glimpse of Kunín leads to Kunín Chateau: the Baroque chateau was built between 1726 and 1734 for the Counts of Harrach according to plans by Johann Lucas von Hildebrandt.

Culture and history

The tour route at Kunín Chateau includes furnished guest rooms, bedrooms, and former classrooms of the chateau school. It also features a picture gallery, a hunting room, a ladies’ room, a large dining hall, and music and dance rooms. The tour of the chateau lasts 90 minutes and is intended for groups of at least 3 and no more than 20 people. Kunín Chateau Park is fully accessible to wheelchair users.

The Church of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross is also part of the history of the village. Its foundation stone was laid in 1810; it was the first work of the young builder Franz Biela. The church was intended for all denominations and followed the interdenominational educational concept of the nearby chateau school.

The Museum of Old Kunewald comprises two rooms presenting the history of the municipality of Kunín. Exhibits include original documents, interesting finds from the municipality and traditional costumes donated by German residents expelled after the Second World War. There are also objects related to Skoronice and the Kunín parish.

The Natural History Cabinet houses a newly installed mineralogical and palaeontological exhibition assembled by Bronislav Novosad from Kunín for the restored chateau.

Cycling and hiking trails

The 40-kilometre Okolo Poodří cycling route passes, among other places, by Kunín Chateau or includes it as a point of interest. The route runs mainly along paved cycle paths with no or only light car traffic. The Jantarová stezka cycling route also passes through Kunín.

The Novojičínská kopretina educational trail can be followed from the railway station in Nový Jičín towards Kunín.
