Culture and History

The urban heritage zone of Odry is bounded by the natural line of the former town walls. At its heart is a stylistically diverse ensemble of burgher houses dating from the late medieval, Renaissance, and early Baroque periods.

Historic landmarks include the Church of St. Bartholomew, whose bell was cast in 1374. The medieval bastion of Odry, part of the medieval fortifications, has been opened to tourists. Visitors can view a collection of beer glasses, bricks, and tiles there.

The permanent exhibition “Ó Odra” at the Oderska Museum is dedicated to the Odra River and life along its course; it depicts life around the Odra River.

Flascharův důl mine is one of only two publicly accessible slate mines in the Czech Republic. Visitors can explore 400 metres of underground tunnels there. After the tour, there is an opportunity to use special scissors to carve a heart out of slate yourself.

Nature and Trails

The K Flascharovu dolu educational trail is approximately 3.5 kilometres long and has 15 information stations. It passes through the Nový Svět mining area, where seven old slate mines or mining facilities have been preserved. The educational trail is suitable for families with children.

Another viewpoint is offered by the Pohoř–Olšová platform, which is located at a height of 13 metres. From there, the view extends across the Moravian Gate to the Moravian-Silesian Beskids.

The Oderské vrchy hills in the region around Odry were designated a nature park in 1994. Their forested landscape, with numerous natural attractions, invites visitors to go for walks throughout the year. The Stříbrný chodník educational trail informs visitors about the history of mining silver-bearing ores.

Activities

HEIBIKEPARK is a gravity-based downhill mountain bike park for beginners and experienced mountain bikers. The park also offers bicycle and equipment rental.
