Vražné: Hotels and accommodation
In Vražné, a specific historical connection leads to Johann Gregor Mendel: his birthplace is a registered cultural monument of the Czech Republic (Register No. 41981/8-1698).
Culture
The Mendel Museum features an exhibition on the life of Johann Gregor Mendel and the rural region of Moravian Kravařsko, where he grew up. Several rooms are dedicated to genetics and breeding. The museum also includes a gallery with a painted biographical comic and a Mendel statue on the ground floor. Guided tours are available by prior telephone appointment.
History
The Roman Catholic Church of St. Peter and Paul was built in 1798–1799. Its construction on the site of an older wooden church, which was already mentioned in 1455, is also associated with the period from 1789 to 1799. On 22 July 1822, Johann Gregor Mendel was baptized Johann in this church.
Other historical sites complete this picture: the original village school was used from 1795; J. G. Mendel attended it during his childhood from 1831 to 1833. Mendel's horse chestnut tree was planted by J. Mendel and his sister Therese and has a built-in seating area. The Chapel of St. Florian has a small bell tower dating from 1805 and a sandstone cross; it was restored and consecrated in 1998. The sandstone cross with a relief of the Virgin Mary in the foreground of the Church of St. Peter and Paul is protected as a cultural monument of the Czech Republic (No. 8-4078).
Nature
The Poodří Protected Landscape Area extends into the southeastern part of Vražné, while the Odersko Nature Park extends into the northern part. Vražné also has the walking route “Vycházková trasa obcí Vražné”.
Leisure
The recreation area at the Pod Emauzy pond has facilities for small-sided football and volleyball.
The encrypted outdoor game “Johann” is intended for visitors to G. J. Mendel's birthplace and for tourists in Vražné. It combines a walk and the solving of encrypted tasks with information about Mendel and places to which he returned. The game can be played at any time of year; its route is accessible to cyclists and parents with pushchairs.
