Hlučín: Hotels and accommodations

Following its reconstruction from 2002 to 2007, the château in Hlučín became the seat of the Hlučínsko Museum, the municipal art school and the municipal library. At the Hlučínsko Museum, the permanent exhibition “Kdo jsou lidé na Hlučínsku?” presents the history of the region as a modern interactive exhibition and also includes virtual reality.

Culture

The stone fortifications of Hlučín were built around 1530–1535; their approximately 900-metre-long wall was around 4.5 metres high and approximately 2 metres thick, reinforced by 12 semicircular bastions. South of the market square, near these fortifications, the Gothic parish Church of St John the Baptist was built; the choir and nave are presumed to date from the first half of the 14th century. At “Cesta k nebesům”, a visit to the church attic leads to the bells and to a viewpoint overlooking Hlučín and the surrounding area.

Regular demonstrations of the defence of the fortifications are held at the Areál čs. opevnění Hlučín-Darkovičky in cooperation with units of the Czech Army.

Water and sports

The Wake-Park-Hlučín cable tow is 920 metres long and operates from May to September. The beach volleyball courts at Hlučínské jezero are suitable for recreational sports and organised tournaments; they can be used by prior reservation.

Cycling route

Cycle Route No. 5, “Jantarová stezka”, runs from the Hať/Tworków border crossing via Ostrava, Přerov, Olomouc, Prostějov and Blansko to Hevlín. Its section through the Hlučínsko microregion runs from Hať via Darkovice and Darkovičky to Hlučín and then along the Opava River to Ostrava.
