Budišovice presents its distinctive village center at the Chapel of St. Vitus: it is the existing architectural landmark in the center and was built in 1873 on the site of an older wooden chapel. Two war graves are located nearby; a public green and rest area has been designated next to it.
Village Center and History
Further traces of the village’s history can be found in the details: the reconciliation cross Smírčí kříž stands by house number 66 and dates from the 16th or 17th century. Monuments from 1920 and 1945 commemorate the victims of the world wars. In Budišovice, slate was processed from 1830 to 1940 into roofing, electrical insulation boards, and decorative objects.
Landscape
Remains of former slate, basalt, and natural stone quarries have been preserved mainly in the forests around Budišovice. A flooded quarry is located directly in Budišovice.
Trails and Forests
Cycle route 6141 leads from Hradec nad Moravicí via Pustá Polom and Budišovice to Hrabyně. In summer, the forests around Budišovice are visited by tourists and mushroom gatherers.
The contiguous forest areas in the valleys of the Studnice and Porubka rivers are among the green belts close to the city surrounding Ostrava.
