Kružberk: Hotels and Accommodation

Kružberk combines the landscape along the Moravice with historic churches, the ruins of Radisko-Kružberk Castle and the Kružberk Reservoir. This setting is complemented by climbing areas, an educational trail and a cycle route.

Culture and History

The Church of St Peter and Paul dates from the first half of the 14th century. This small late Gothic church, built in a folk style, is a state-protected cultural monument and is considered one of the oldest churches in Silesia. The church is located on the southern edge of Kružberk, near the bridge over the Moravice. Its organ, dating from 1808, is known in Silesia for having the largest number of preserved original components.

The Church of St Florian is also part of the village’s sacred history. It was built in 1812 by the builder Antonín Englisch on the site of an approximately 100-year-old church that had already become too small. Inside is a Stations of the Cross with 14 pictures from 1883.

The ruins of Radisko-Kružberk Castle lie in a forest about 1.2 kilometres southwest of the village centre and about 400 metres east of the dam of the Kružberk Reservoir. The site is located on a prominent rocky edge above the left bank of the Moravice. The castle served as a watchpoint over a trade route and probably fell into disrepair during later internal unrest and the Hussite Wars.

The more recent cultural history is also linked to the waterworks: the Kružberk Reservoir and its surrounding area served as a filming location in 1985 for the nine-part television series Velké sedlo.

Nature and Water

The Kružberk Reservoir is a water reservoir on the Moravice. It was built from 1948 to 1955 as the first reservoir in the Oder river basin. In Moravice Nature Park, below the Kružberk Reservoir, the Moravice forms a deep canyon between Dolní Moravice and Branka u Opavy.

The river is navigable by watercraft for approximately 100 kilometres, but only when water is released from the Kružberk Reservoir under controlled conditions.

Trails and Rocks

The Kružberk training rocks offer climbing routes on walls, in corners, cracks and chimneys up to 50 metres long. They consist of three main areas: Žabí kůň, Hlavní masiv and Rozlámaná. From Kružberk, the rocks can be reached via an approximately one-kilometre-long red-marked hiking trail towards the reservoir.

The Čermákova naučná stezka educational trail is 5.2 kilometres long and includes eight stations covering nature, historic monuments and notable figures of the region. Its route follows the riverbanks, passes the Kružberk training rocks and the dam of the Kružberk Reservoir, and also leads past an animal enclosure.

Cycling

Cycle Route 551 along the Moravice runs from Kružberk via Hradec nad Moravicí to Opava and is approximately 44 kilometres long. Most of the route follows Class III roads as well as paved or unpaved forest tracks.
